Cognac la Forêt
From the 15th century on it was known as Comphrac, then Cognac Le Froid. In 1979 Cognac Le Froid (thus named in 1914) became Cognac La Forêt. The commune possesses remains from Gallo-Roman times, in particular the road connecting Limoges to Saintes, which passes through the crossroads at Querroy and through the forest near Roussis. In the Middle Ages life centred around the castle (probably built in the 12th or 13th century, rebuilt in the 16th, then 17th century). The park of the castle is classed as a historic site. As for the moats surrounding the edifice, they were filled in during the 19th century.
